Sweet Potatoes Australia (SPA) is a joint venture between two of the Bundaberg region’s largest producers of sweet potatoes, Greensill Farming Group and Halt For Holts. With over 1000 hectares of prime farming land under their combined management, and an annual production of around 900,000 cartons of sweet potatoes, SPA can reliably supply the major markets all year round. In addition to sweet potatoes, SPA also produces 120,000 tonnes of sugar cane and 7,500 tonnes of watermelons each year.
Combining To Meet The Needs of Major Retail Buyers
The Greensill and Holt families operate with closely aligned values and practices overseeing their operations:
- Providing excellent service to both external and internal customers
- Providing a quality product
- Practicing sustainable and efficient farming techniques
Given their similar qualities as well as their close physical proximity, the logical next step was to work together to create an operation capable of guaranteeing a reliable direct supply of fresh, high quality product to all of the major markets, including the retail chains.
By dealing directly with SPA, you have the satisfaction and assurance of being able to see the complete supply chain from our paddock to your shelves - and ultimately to the consumer’s plate. Plus, with several different farms, in different geographical locations, if production in one location is compromised by a weather event or other disaster, we can still maintain supply.
About Greensill Farming Group
The Greensill family’s original 27 hectare farm on the rich red volcanic soil of the Hummock was established in 1945. The current generation – Lex, Andrew, and Peter Greensill - have implemented quite a few innovative farming practices and grown the operation to include significant plantings of sweet potatoes and water melons, grown in rotation with sugar cane. Peter Greensill is a Director on the board of Bundaberg Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association.
